Truckee Tahoe Air Show & Family Festival returns in September

The Truckee Tahoe Air Show & Family Festival “A Day of Remembrance,” soars back in spectacular fashion on Saturday, September 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is sure to be a day packed full of dazzling aerobatic performances and a grand finale unlike anything anyone has ever witnessed at the Truckee Tahoe Airport.

The 3:30 p.m. Grand Finale Performance by the United States Air Force F-35A Lightning II Demonstration Team will make the crowd cheer for more! Major Kristin “BEO” Wolfe is the first-ever female pilot and commander United States Air Force F-35A Lightning II Demonstration Team, and she knows with hard work and dedication that young people can succeed at their goals. Wolfe will demonstrate the Air Force’s most advanced multi-role stealth-fighter’s aerial capabilities, along with the support of her 11-person demo team.

“Our goal is to inspire all young adults to consider pursuing careers in the Air Force. Also, people don’t realize that women have been in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years, but only account for four percent of military fighter pilots,” noted Major Wolfe.

She went on to point out that the Air Force offers free education for a multitude of career paths, so “remember to excel in and work hard at anything and everything you do.”

“In preparation for each F-35A demonstration, my team and I practice hundreds of hours in a simulator and in the air, so it becomes second nature when we’re performing,” said Wolfe. “That is not an understatement. We practice until we’re nauseous!”

Featured Air Show Performers

Why Truckee Tahoe Air Show & Family Festival?

This air show is all about bringing the community together. It’s free to the public (free parking and free admission) as a benefit to Truckee/North Tahoe Communities, generously supported for the past nine years by its Title Sponsor, the Truckee Tahoe Airport District. The event is produced by three nonprofit organizations offering them a unique way to raise money for local youth*. The three main nonprofits are the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) local Truckee Chapter 1073, Truckee’s KidZone Museum, and the Truckee Optimist Club. The show offers an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to connect with the airport, aerobatic performers, and local organizations.

“Volunteers from our three main nonprofit organizations and others spend hundreds of hours preparing year-round for this one-day event which financially benefits Truckee/North Tahoe youth, as all money raised through sponsorship efforts, sales of t-shirts, and other miscellaneous items goes back into the community. That amount will most likely reach upwards of $50K+ for this year,” says Tim LoDolce, executive director, Truckee Tahoe AS&FF and president, EAA local chapter 1073. “Without the financial support of the Airport District, this event could never happen. It is in large part a give-back to the community and the people it serves.”

The event offers nonprofit organizations an uncommon opportunity to raise money to give back to the community. All sponsorship dollars and money earned from vendor booth and VIP Hospitality Tent ticket sales, and the sale of miscellaneous items benefit Truckee/North Tahoe youth.
