Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care executive director to step down

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After seventeen months of service to Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC), Heidi Volkhardt Allstead will be leaving as the nonprofit's executive director, effective July 25, 2023.

In the last five years, LTWC has experienced momentous growth — transitioning from its Cherry Hills location, moving to a new 27-acre parcel, and completing construction on the 5,000-square-foot hospital and rehabilitation building, in addition to 10 animal enclosures.

"Heidi’s leadership has made LTWC a significantly stronger organization and the LTWC Board of Directors is grateful for her initiative and influence. During her tenure, Heidi strengthened and improved operational processes/ procedures, broadened partnerships with local agencies and organizations, and fostered staff development and growth," said the board in a statement.

The top priority of LTWC is the well-being of its rehabilitation and ambassador animals. The current team of staff and volunteers are well positioned to continue its mission of wildlife rehabilitation and release back into the wild.

The LTWC board would like to hire an executive director immediately. In the interim, Coralin Glerum will step down as LTWC Board President and serve as interim executive director until the position is filled.

The board of directors said they are committed to a successful transition and minimizing any effects during the busy summer season.

Any questions can be directed to Heidi (heidi@ltwc.org) until July 25, or Coralin (coralin@ltwc.org).
