Hand and Foot Tournament at Valhalla to raise funds for kids in Kenya

Event Date:
August 2, 2024 - 5:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The community is invited to come together for a fun evening on Hand and Foot playing, music and dancing to the sounds of the 1960s, and lots of laughs, all to raise funds for children in Kenya. Join in the efforts to nourish minds, one plate at a time at Valhalla Tahoe on August 2. 1960s music and dancing from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., Hand and Foot card game tournament from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Funds raised during the evening will go directly to feeding over 400 children who attend Subuiga Primary School in Meru County, Kenya. Every single dollar! The program at the school is led by Paige Rice, former owner of Tahoe Best Friends and parttime resident of Kenya. It is called Hungry for Education, Hourishing Minds One Plate at a Time which was started in January 2024.

Every day, many of these children go to school hungry—not only for food but also for education. Despite lacking energy, their enthusiasm to learn is undiminished. These kids strive for an education to create a better life for themselves and their loved ones, and they WILL make this world a better place.

Many children walk for miles on empty stomachs. The program's goal is to provide them with one nutritional meal a day, lunch, to increase their energy and amplify their spirits. Every week, either Page or her manager in Kenya brings 200 pounds of maize, rice, beans, salt, and cooking oils to serve to the children. They buy, deliver, and cook a nourishing lunch with no middleman, salaries of administrative fees.

Results are already evident in just the first six months of this program. New children are enrolling in classes, absenteeism is at an all-time low, grades have risen, the kindergarten class has increased by 17 percent, and they expect a larger graduation class than ever before.

As of July 16, 2024, thanks to donations, they have already raised over $12,000 - They only need $500 more to feed the 417 school children through the end of this year, 2024.

An online fundraiser through GoFundMe (https://rb.gy/vpowlo) has already raised a significant portion of the funds.

A previous Hand and Foot fundraiser held at Ernie's earlier this summer raised $2,500, and funds will be raised at Valhalla to keep the program going. It costs just 14 cents per meal!

The cost of the Valhalla tournament is a $20 entry fee made through the GoFundMe page - https://gofund.me/8a066bd4. Join in the fun and make a difference!
