"I Got Bombed at Harvey’s" topic of next Tahoe History Talks on the Beach

Event Date:
July 23, 2024 - 6:30pm

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - If you were living on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe August 26–27, 1980, you most likely watched the planted bomb detonate inside Harveys Lake Tahoe. The Lake Tahoe Historical Society is holding its next Tahoe History Talks on the Beach on Tuesday, July 23, and the topic is "I Got Bombed at Harvey's." That saying was quickly put onto t-shirts and sold through South Lake Tahoe.

In 1980, this elaborate booby-trapped bomb containing 1,000 pounds of dynamite was the first domestic bombing on U.S. Soil. The size and magnitude of the destruction shocked even the trained FBI agents who were on the scene.

Everyone is invited to this free talk, and if you have first-hand accounts, please come and share. The microphone will be passed around after a short presentation by author Phillip Sublett.

The talk is at Lakeview Commons on the west side of the amphitheater seating from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Seating is on the stone, so bring a cushion or small chair if you'd like.

The next talk on July 30 is also one for audience participation. “All-Star Legends,” will be an evening of local speakers with MC Dave Borges. Learn the stories of these sages of our community. Comments and questions are welcomed.
