Search on for person missing after jumping into Topaz Lake

MONDAY UPDATE: - A man who had been reported missing on Sunday afternoon in Topaz Lake was found deceased on Monday morning. On July 22, 2024, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Marine units and dive team, along with the Nevada Department of Wildlife, located and recovered 51-year-old Rodney Mitchell of Reno, Nev.
Although drowning is believed to be the cause of death, the decedent was taken to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s office for a definitive cause of death.
TOPAZ LAKE, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) is reporting a missing person in Topaz Lake. At approximately 3:30 p.m. Sunday, DCSO, East Fork Fire, and the Mono County Sheriff's Office responded to the lake on the report of a man missing after he jumped into the lake. Witnesses said he did not resurface and was not wearing a personal floatation device.
When deputies and fire personnel arrived, they actively engaged in the search.`
