Fundraising campaign started for South Lake Tahoe with brain tumor

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Fundraising is underway for a South Lake Tahoe woman who is facing surgery and recovery of a brain tumor. Two weeks ago, Heidi Munnecke had an MRI after ignoring symptoms for a long time that she wrote off to stress.

The MRI showed a meningioma and met with Dr. Yu at Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and they decided on surgery to remove the tumor, which was successfully done on July 21.

Many know Heidi as a realtor, first with Century 21 and currently with ReMax, specializing in real estate in South Lake Tahoe and the American River Canyon.

She will take time to recover in Los Angeles, to be at sea level, and allow proper time to rest and recuperate.

Her friend Jill Sanders has created a Go Fund Me page to help Heidi with upcoming expenses.

One would think that this is enough to face as a single mom but sadly, the story continues.

Heidi’s daughter has also been diagnosed with a brain lesion. She is 12-years-old and will need to start doing a multitude of tests, dye contrast MRIs, EEGs, sleep studies, bloodwork all while starting school and having her mom recovering from brain surgery.

"Heidi has had to go on medical leave and as many of you know, when you are an independent contractor, there is no pay. So, here we are, humbly asking for help via a GoFund Me," said Jill on the fundraising site. "The expenses of her surgery and recovery will surpass her savings. She is insured but many costs are still beyond expensive."

Costs on top of all medical/surgery costs include temporary relocation, homeschooling, tutors, food, mortgage, and pet care.
