Charges upgraded to murder after South Lake Tahoe shooting victim dies

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Murder has been added to the list of charges against the man suspected of shooting a former South Lake Tahoe man on the morning of July 16, 2024. Christopher A. Guzman, 28, was arrested by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) as a suspect after the shooting in the 2000 block of Eloise Avenue.

The shooting victim, 41-year-old Dennis Crowe, succumbed to his injuries on Monday after being taken off life support after all viable organs were donated. South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) said Crowe had ties to the area and was a former resident of South Lake Tahoe. He had been living in Southern California for some time and visited the area often.

The current charges Guzman now faces:

Murder
Felony Assault w/deadly weapon, not a firearm - two counts
False Imprisonment - three felony counts
Felony Threaten crime with intent to terrorize

The suspect is in the El Dorado County Jail awaiting arraignment.

SLTPD detectives have been working closely with witnesses and the family of Mr. Crowe. Detectives are still investigating this case and have various leads to follow.
