The proposed project consists of an approximately 35-year phased development of an aggregate mine operation on an Indian-owned allotment as administered by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. It is a sand and gravel mineral lease approximately seven miles northeast of Minden, Nev. in Douglas County. The mine includes a .8-acre right-of-way for an access road, BLM authorizing the right-of-way for a haul route on land they administer, as well as their relocating off-highway vehicle parking with access improvements.
According to the BIA, “Any person who may be adversely affected by this decision may appeal the decision to the Interior Board of Indian Appeals (IBIA), Office of Hearings and Appeals.” More information on protest and appeal opportunities can be found here.
The BIA and BLM decision does not authorize construction to begin until 30 days after the decision outlined in the Decision Record documents.
The Painted Rock Mine is under the authority of the BIA. The BIA has sole authority to approve the Painted Rock Mine project. This land and project are not under the jurisdiction and control of the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners and the County has no authority to approve or condition this project in any way.
