UC Davis TERC to host annual State of the Lake Report at Lake Tahoe

Event Date:
August 8, 2024 - 4:30pm

On Thursday, August 8, UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) will host the annual State of the Lake Report presentation at Granlibakken Tahoe located at 725 Granlibakken Road just south of Tahoe City.

The Tahoe State of the Lake report informs nonscientists about important factors affecting the health of Lake Tahoe. It provides the scientific underpinnings for restoration and management decisions within the Lake Tahoe Basin. The 2024 report summarizes data collected during 2023 in the context of the long-term research record at Lake Tahoe. UC Davis researchers have continuously monitored the lake since 1968.

TERC interim director Alex Forrest, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at UC Davis, will share report highlights during a simultaneous live presentation and webinar for an informative and lively interpretation of the most recent data.

A hosted panel of water experts will discuss lake clarity and health. Panelists will include:

Monica Arienzo, Ph.D., Microplastics expert with the Desert Research Institute
Alex Forrest, Ph.D., Interim Director of the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center
John Melack, Ph.D., Co-chair of the Lake Clarity Report, Tahoe Science Advisory Council and Professor at UC Santa Barbara
Dan Segan, Chief Science and Policy Advisor, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Enjoy appetizers sponsored by UC Davis and a no-host bar from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. During that time, TERC's summer interns will present their research posters in an informal outdoor session on the Mountain Deck. The lecture will begin at 6 p.m. in the Mountain and Lake Rooms at Granlibakken Tahoe, 725 Granlibakken Road, Tahoe City. Dining is also available at the Cedar House Pub inside Granlibakken.

Advanced tickets are $10 and free for students with a student ID. Tickets at the door are $15. Ample parking is available (see resort map).
