South Lake Tahoe Parks & Rec seeks winter concessionaire for 56-acre parcel

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Imagine the 56-acre parcel in the heart of South Lake Tahoe being turned into a winter wonderland. The City is looking for an innovative partnership with a concessionaire who will provide snow and winter activities on the current campground space and some of the surrounding area that make up the 56-acre parcel.

The City of South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Department released a request for proposals (RFPs) on July 16 for a Winter Program Concessionaire. The City currently operates a seasonal campground within the 56-acre parcel between April and October 1. The 175-site campground is vacant in winter but has the potential to be programmed for low-impact winter activities. The City is planning to create a “Winter Wonderland” atmosphere in the campground, including family-oriented holiday events.

To complement this program, the Parks and Recreation Department seeks proposals for enhanced winter recreation programs within the 56-Acres Park campgrounds. The intent of the RFP is to allow innovative public-private partnerships to address the increasing demand of low-impact, family-oriented snow play that is safe and affordable. The City would like to see proposals that include innovative recreational programming and activities, equipment rental, or other support services and amenities, which would enhance public recreation facilities for residents and visitors. Recreation services for this area may include, but are not limited to, snow sledding, snow bikes, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, snow play, and interpretive programs.

Submittals are due no later than 4;00 p.m. (PST) on August 20, 2021. The City will apply a local business preference of five points in the evaluation process to all local businesses that submit proposals. As of Monday, July 26, seven potential bidders have expressed interest, one of them is a local.
