Invasive aquatic weed project underway at Tallac and Taylor creeks at Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. -The USDA Forest Service and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency are working together to remove aquatic invasive weeds from wetlands at Baldwin and Kiva beaches to improve water quality, wildlife habitat, and recreational access.

Contractors are using underwater barriers (mats secured with rebar stakes) to cover the weeds, which will eliminate them by depriving the weeds of sunlight.

For public safety, the agencies recommend that people and pets stay out of the water in the project area and away from the mats and rebar stakes. This project is expected to be completed in 2026.
