Farmers markets are a treasure trove of fresh produce, locally sourced goods, and unique finds. While most people visit these markets for their fruits, vegetables, and other food items, there’s another aspect that often goes unnoticed - the craft vendors. Craft vendors are an integral part of the farmer's market experience. They offer a wide range of handmade items, from jewelry and pottery to textiles and home decor. These artisans pour their heart and soul into their work, resulting in products that are not only beautiful but also carry a story.
By purchasing from craft vendors, you’re supporting local businesses and contributing to the local economy. These small-scale artisans rely on markets like these to showcase their work and generate income. The items you find at a craft vendor’s stall are often one-of-a-kind. These unique pieces can add a touch of individuality to your home or wardrobe, or make thoughtful gifts for loved ones.
So, the next time you visit your local farmers market, don’t just make a beeline for the food stalls. Take a detour to the craft vendors, and you might just find your new favorite piece of art, jewelry, or home decor.
However, since you are at a farmer's market, why not also pick up a variety of farm-fresh produce and whip up something healthy and delicious for dinner – like this super easy Farmers Market Stir-Fry!
Farmers Market Stir-Fry with Lemon and Dill
2 Tbsp. dry sherry
1 tsp. soy sauce
½ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. pepper
¼ tsp. sugar
2 cloves garlic
1 medium carrot
2 small zucchini or yellow squash
2 green bell pepper
1 cup cherry tomatoes
2 medium scallions
¼ cup chopped fresh dill
2 Tbsp. olive oil
2 Tbsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice
Place 2 tablespoons sherry and 1 teaspoon soy sauce in a small bowl. Place 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar in a small dish or bowl.
Smash 2 garlic cloves. Cut 1 carrot crosswise into 1/4-inch thick rounds (about 1 cup). Cut 2 small zucchini or yellow squash crosswise into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Trim and cut 1 small green bell pepper into 1/4-inch wide strips. Halve 1 cup cherry tomatoes. Thinly slice 2 medium scallions. Coarsely chop 1/4 cup fresh dill.
Heat a 14-inch flat-bottomed wok or 12-inch skillet over high heat until a bead of water vaporizes within 1 to 2 seconds of contact. Swirl in 2 tablespoons oil, add the garlic, and stir-fry until fragrant, about 10 seconds. Add the carrots and stir-fry for 1 minute. Add the zucchini and bell pepper and stir-fry until the bell pepper is bright green, about 1 minute.
Add the tomatoes and sprinkle on the salt mixture. Drizzle the sherry mixture into the pan and stir-fry for 30 seconds. Add the scallions and stir-fry until the vegetables are tender-crisp, 30 seconds to 1 minute. Add the dill and stir-fry until just combined. Transfer to a serving bowl. Just before serving, add 2 tablespoons lemon juice and toss to combine.
