New video shows paddlers how to protect both Lake Tahoe and gear

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Inflatable paddleboards are easy to carry and can help alleviate parking congestion, but did you know they can also spread aquatic invasive species (AIS)? Many paddlers are unaware that the water that collects in the folds and carrying bags can transport AIS that threatens Lake Tahoe’s ecology and water clarity. This standing water can also cause mold and mildew, and weaken the seams of their paddleboard.

To help prevent the spread of AIS in Lake Tahoe, paddlers are urged to watch the new Lake Tahoe Water Trail How to Protect Lake Tahoe and Your Paddle Gear video and follow the steps to ensure all of their gear is clean, drained, and dry to prevent the spread of AIS and to protect your gear.

Lake Tahoe Water Trail - 72 miles of pure liquid fun!

Paddlers can find mapped paddle routes, launch landing sites with restrooms and trash cans, water safety, stewardship, local rentals and tours to plan their safe and fun eco-paddle trip at LakeTahoeWaterTrail.org

The video and educational campaign are being distributed both locally and by REI stores in drive-up markets by Tahoe tourism and sustainable recreation sponsors to educate paddlers and all lake users to become Tahoe Keepers and clean their gear before they arrive.
