Major travel delays can be expected on SR28 next week in North Lake Tahoe

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Caltrans is advising motorists of a broadband installation project and gas-line replacement work continuing along State Route 28 (SR-28) along the north shore of Lake Tahoe next week.

The broadband project is a part of a larger statewide effort by the California Department of Technology to bring high-speed broadband into rural communities. The contractor for this project is Teichert Construction.

One-way traffic control is scheduled along SR-28 between the Tahoe State Park entrance and the State Route 89 intersection:

Sunday, August 4 from 8 p.m. until Monday, August 5 at 7 a.m.
Monday, August 5 from 6 p.m. until Tuesday, August 6 at 7 a.m.
Tuesday, August 6 from 6 p.m. until Wednesday, August 7 at 7 a.m.
Wednesday, August 7 from 6 p.m. until Thursday, August 8 at 7 a.m.

Utility work is scheduled along the eastbound shoulder of SR-28 at the following locations and times:

Between Jackpine Street and Lake Forest Road West:
Monday, August 5 between 5 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Between Sierra Terrace Road and Dollar Drive:
Tuesday, August 6 between 5 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Between Rocky Ridge Road and Chinquapin Drive:
Wednesday, August 7 from 5 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Utility work is scheduled along the shoulders of both directions of SR-28 at the following locations and times:

Between Jackpine Street and Star Harbor Court:
Monday, August 5 from 8 p.m. until Tuesday, August 6 at 8 a.m.

Between Center Street and Sahara Drive:
Monday, August 5 between 5 a.m. - 3 p.m.

One-way traffic control Between Tahoe State Park entrance and Star Harbor Court:
Tuesday, August 6 from 8 p.m. until Wednesday, August 7 at 8 a.m.

Between Sahara Drive and Stag Drive:
Tuesday, August 6 between 5 a.m. - 3 p.m.

One-way traffic control Between Rocky Ridge Road and Burton Creek Drive:
Wednesday, August 7 from 8 p.m. until Thursday, August 8 at 8 a.m.

Between Stag Drive and Estates Drive:
Wednesday, August 7 from 5 a.m. until 9 a.m.

Between Estates Drive and Pino Grande Avenue:
Wednesday, August 7 from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m.

In addition, Southwest Gas and its contractor, Q&D Construction, continue work on a gas-line replacement project on SR-28 between Tahoe City and Kings Beach. One-way traffic control is scheduled during the evening/overnight hours at the following locations starting Sunday, August 4 at 7 p.m. until Friday, August 9 at 5 a.m. No work is scheduled between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day.

Between Onyx Street and Center Street in Carnelian Bay
At Sahara Drive in Carnelian Bay
West Agatam Avenue and National Avenue in Tahoe Vista
East Agatam Avenue and Pino Grande Avenue in Tahoe Vista

Motorists could encounter total delays of up to one hour between Tahoe City and Kings Beach on SR-28 due to the various construction activities. Please allow for extra time to reach your destination. All work on road construction projects will be suspended on weekends and holidays. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment and/or material availability, or other unexpected events.
