New fire starts in El Dorado County: Crozier Fire growing with evacuations in place

9:00AM THURSDAY UPDATE: The Crozier Fire burning on the west slope of the Sierra Nevada in El Dorado County has grown to 706 acres and is five percent contained. The fire is burning in a remote area of heavy timber and thick brush which makes access difficult. There are 752 firefighting personnel working on the fire with 46 engines, four helicopters and 14 hand crews.

Evacuation orders are in place for Garden Valley, Georgetown, Volcanoville, Mosquito, Quintette, and Swansboro areas. There are evacuation warnings to the area east and southeast of the fire. Check https://perimetermap.com/ for exact locations.

11:00PM UPDATE: The Evacuation Order Zone has been extended to the greater portion of the Garden Valley, Georgetown, Volcanoville, Mosquito, and Quintet. The Crozier Fire is now 570.9 acres and remains 5 percent contained.

7:00P UPDATE: The Crozier Fire is now measured at 391.9 acres, according to Calfire. There is now a unified command for the fire burning in El Dorado County: CAL FIRE Amador El-Dorado Unit and the El Dorado National Forest.

The fire remains at 5 percent contained.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

11:30AM UPDATE: The Crozier Fire is now 182 acres and is 5 percent contained. There is a strong aerial attack with helicopters and airplanes. Crews are making headway on the east and west flanks of the fire.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A fire started northeast of Placerville overnight near the communities of Mosquito and Swansboro. The fire is currently measured at 67 acres and evacuation orders are in effect for the area.

Named the Crozier Fire, it is burning on the northwest of Slate Mountain.
