El Dorado County starts a dedicated Crozier Fire webpage as fire grows to 1960 acres

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The Crozier Fire burning in the steep, rugged terrain northwest of Placerville has grown to 1,960 acres and it remains five percent contained.

The fire continues to burn in areas with receptive and abundant fuels. Crews continue to engage actively in parts of the fire when it is possible to build direct lines, reinforce lines, and mop up. Crews are working around high heat and steep, rocky terrain.

Weather remains hot and dry Friday night and through the weekend with poor overnight relative humidity recoveries.

The Crozier Fire is the fifth largest fire actively burning in California. It follows the Park Fire (428,808 acres), Borel Fire (59,392 acres), Kern County Lightning Complex (32,801 acres), and the Hill Fire (7,224 acres).

The fire, which started on August 6 at 10:57 p.m. has led to multiple evacuations in the communities of Georgetown, Volcanoville, Mosquito, Swansboro, Quintette, and areas east of Hwy 193. Road closures include Mosquito Road at Rock Creek Road, Rock Creek Road at Trail Gulch Rd, Hwy 193 at Shoemaker Rd, eastbound Wentworth Springs Road at Citabria Lane, and westbound Wentworth Springs Rd at Stumpy Meadows Reservoir.
