Event Date:
August 17, 2023 - 6:00pm

The eastern Placer County community is invited to participate in a town hall event on August 17 at 6 p.m. to discuss evacuation planning and strategies along with emergency preparedness.

This informational session aims to provide the community with a better understanding of what public safety agencies are doing to prepare for wildfire emergencies. The town hall will also provide residents with strategies to enhance their own readiness.

"As your District 5 Supervisor, I urge every resident to participate in the Eastern Placer County Evacuation and Emergency Preparedness Town Hall,” said Placer County District 5 Supervisor Cindy Gustafson. “Our community's safety hinges on our collective knowledge and preparedness. This event is an invaluable opportunity to learn directly from our local experts, to ask questions and to understand how to protect our families and neighbors during an emergency. By attending, you're taking an active role in securing our community's future. Join us, either in person or virtually, as we equip ourselves with the tools to navigate any challenge that may arise."

The event will take place Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach, offering both in-person attendance and a virtual participation option via Zoom.

The town hall is a collaborative effort involving key local agencies including the Placer County Sheriff's Office, CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire Department, and the Placer County Office of Emergency Services.

“Let us remember that preparedness and education are our strongest shields during any critical incident, but especially during fire season. The safety of our community remains our priority and as your sheriff, I urge each one of you to arm yourself with knowledge and readiness. Please join us at the upcoming town hall meeting on evacuation and emergency preparedness, where we can work together to ensure the well-being of our community in times of crisis,” said Placer County Sheriff Wayne Woo.

"At CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire Department, our commitment extends beyond fighting fires; it's about safeguarding our community in every possible way by ensuring our emergency responders are equipped and our residents are prepared,” said Chief Brian Estes. “The Eastern Placer County Evacuation and Emergency Preparedness Town Hall will provide an excellent platform for us to share crucial insights about the network of allied agencies that stand ready to respond to any type of emergency that may develop in the Tahoe Basin.”
