7:00PM UPDATE: Three Helicopters took turns dropping water on the Fay Fire throughout the Day.

This constant barrage of water assisted the 16 firefighters trying to secure the 3-acre wildfire burning on the steep mountainside. These firefighters will remain on the fire through the night and continue building containment lines to limit fire growth.

Although containment remains at 0 percent due to the high potential for rolling materials to breach containment lines, the fire did not gain much ground due to the continued full suppression effort from ground and air resources.

Firefighters are working to stop a two-acre wildfire located in the Fay Luther Canyon in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest south of Lake Tahoe, southeast of Job's Sister. On Friday night, a fire-fighting team was dropped into the canyon when the fire was listed as 3/4 acre at the time.

Burning material rolling down the steep slopes and over the established lines is challenging containment efforts.

The ground troops are being supported by two helicopters (an A-Star and a Sikorsky Sky Crane) dropping water. Backpack pumps portable water bladders called blivets are configured and ready to fly into the fire area in order to provide the firefighters water on the ground.

A Sierra Front 20-person crew arrived on the scene and will assist the firefighting effort. Additional resources have been ordered including a Hotshot Crew.
