Mandatory evacuations in place for El Dorado County fire near Grizzly Flats

MONDAY MORNING UPDATE: The Caldor Fire is now at 754 acres. 285 firefighting personnel are now fighting the fire in El Dorado County in the Omo Ranch/Grizzly Flats area 12 miles south of Pollock Pines. There are evacuations in the area.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Multiple agencies have responded to the Calfor Fire, burning in El Dorado County in the Gizzly Flats area off Omo Ranch Road near Santiago Creek. There are mandatory evacuations for 1.5 miles around the fire, and evacuation warnings for Omo Ranch. It is 45 acres this morning and 90 personnel are assigned to the fire.

Last night, USFS, CALFIRE, Pioneer Fire Protection District, CHP and other organizations responded to the fire. There were night challenges due to the terrain which made accessing the fire difficult. in the dark due to terrain in the Omo Ranch area near Sopiago Creek Road. Night firefighting and challenging terrain made accessing the fire difficult. The fire burned very actively throughout the night. Direct attack was used where possible to do so safely. Multiple resources are working to contain the fire. Additional resources are enroute.

Current Situation: Firefighters continue to go direct with suppression efforts where possible, and are using helicopter bucket drops in accessible areas. Air tankers and super scoopers have been ordered.

Location: 4 miles S. of Grizzly Flats, 2 miles E. of Omo Ranch. The map on inciweb is incorrect and had the GPS coordinates of the fire closer to Auburn.

Evacuations: El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has issued the following --

• Evacuation orders are in effect for a 1.5 mile radius around the fire
• Evacuation warnings are in effect for portions of Omo Ranch and Leoni Meadows

An evacuation center has been established at Diamond Springs Fire Hall.

Immediate Concerns: The communities of Omo Ranch and Leoni Meadows should be on alert and prepared to evacuate.
