Multiple agencies respond to accidental drowning near Bonsai Rock at Lake Tahoe,

MONDAY Update: Francisco Villa Madrigal, 39, of San Jose, Calif., has been identified as the person who was pronounced dead after being pulled out of the water near Bonsai Rock. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office said the cause and manner of death are pending investigation, though no foul is suspected.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) is investigating an accidental drowning near Bonsai Rock at Lake Tahoe. On Saturday, August 17, 2024, at approximately 1:20 p.m., WCSD received a report of a possible drowning in the area of Bonsai Rock on the east shore of Lake Tahoe.

Members of the WCSO patrol, Search and Rescue (SAR), Hasty Team, and Specialized Vehicle Unit (SVU), along with the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Nevada State Park rangers, and the U.S. Coast Guard, responded to the scene and located an unresponsive adult male in the water.

The victim was transported to Sand Harbor, where he was pronounced deceased.

This incident is currently being investigated as an accidental drowning by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
