Joint maximum traffic enforcement operation in South Lake Tahoe this weekend

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be a joint maximum traffic enforcement operation this weekend with the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the California Highway Patrol and Nevada Highway Patrol.

The joint operations starts Friday, August 20 and goes through Sunday, August 22. Law enforcement has received information that another group of car enthusiasts like last year's #Lake2o are possibly planning another event on the South Shore. In 2020 there were multiple incidents of revving, burnouts, and high-speed driving at various locations, along with a security guard at MontBleu being attacked.

Each agency will have special details to address traffic concerns in their respective jurisdictions. They will be looking for traffic violations including speeding, reckless driving, and various equipment violations.

"Both the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office hope to positively impact their areas to improve both safety on the roadway and quality of life," said South Lake Tahoe Police PIO Lt. Travis Cabral in a release. "Please drive safely."
