South Lake Tahoe Ambassadors honored during the Lake Tahoe Summit

During Thursday's 25th annual Lake Tahoe Summit, youth from South Lake Tahoe were recognized for their work this summer in the new ambassador program.

Aimed at addressing increasing tourism impacts, the Sierra Nevada Alliance employed and and coordinated students from South Tahoe High to interact with the public at busy locations around South Lake Tahoe. Their role was to promote environmental stewardship with the goal of changing behaviors. The program was designed to provide work experience for South Tahoe high School students in grades 9-12 pursuing careers in the natural resources, hospitality and tourism industries, and was funded by the Sierra Nevada Alliance, City of South Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Unified School District, Lake Tahoe Community College, Tahoe Fund, Tahoe Women’s Fund, El Dorado Community Foundation, and Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority.
