EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The Caldor Fire burning southwest of Lake Tahoe is now 98,149 acres and remains 0 percent contained.
The Caldor Fire remained active again throughout the night, particularly in the northeast section of the fire. Vegetation and timber is igniting very easily and spotting continues to occur ahead of the fire perimeter.
There was a spot fire late in the day Saturday on the north side of US50 near Kyburz and that has grown to about 400 acres. Firefighters will be prioritizing this spot fire today.
Other spot fires continued to develop throughout the evening Saturday. Down canyon breezes and a minor inversion layer decreased the fire behavior and growth in the southern portions of the fire.
To the south, firefighters and tankers held the fire from reaching Highway 88 yesterday but will be reinforcing this control line today, hopefully with the assistance of air tankers if visibility permits. The fire has reached the Pipi Campground and Stinson areas north of 88 but no details of damage to those areas have been released yet.
