SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for Lake Tahoe Basin from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Donner Lake, and Prosser and Boca reservoirs are also included in the warning.

Southwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and waves up to 3 feet should be expected. Small boats, kayaks, and paddleboards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

There is a Red Flag Warning from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday for the rim of the Lake Tahoe Basin (Tramway and Upper Kingsbury included) to the Carson Valley, Carson City, and Reno. Expect gusty winds to 40 mph with low relative humidity and dry fine fuels. No flames allowed during a Red Flag Warning.

Things can change quickly and the public should watch for updates to conditions if outdoors. Wind will be staying with us for a few days and warnings can be expanded as a deep low-pressure system moves over the region.
