Caldor Fire Wednesday morning update: 126,182 acres and 11% contained

The Caldor Fire burning southwest of Lake Tahoe is now 126,182 acres and remains 11 percent contained. Evacuation orders and warnings have not changed.

Since the fire is now the number one priority in the nation, more resources will be arriving today.

The change in wind patterns in the early hours of the evening decreased fire behavior throughout the incident. This allowed firing teams to progress through Division A, D, and W (see map above for divisions), strengthening and improving the control lines. Throughout the Southwest and the Northeastern areas of the fire, spot fires continued to be found around the perimeter. The steep drainages and canyons in the region continued to aid erratic winds and hamper control efforts. As low backing fire was observed along the northern sections as the fire progressed towards the American River along US50. During the evening hours in the southern portion of the fire, minor fire growth was seen in Divisions R, P,and T.
