High-speed pursuit from Meyers into Douglas County leads to arrest of homicide suspect

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - An Arizona man wanted in connection with a homicide was arrested Thursday after a high speed chase that reached speeds over 100 mph.

A white Cadillac passed by a license plate reader in Meyers that alerted law enforcement the vehicle was associated with a man wanted for homicide. The California Highway Patrol began pursuit and called ahead to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office at 2:44 p.m. to let them know to expect the vehicle. It had turned east at the intersection of SR89 and SR 88.

The Cadillac continued eastbound and entered Douglas County/Nevada. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) was requested to take over the pursuit in Nevada.

Due to the high risk of the subject in the vehicle and his disregard for public safety, DCSO continued the pursuit eastbound on SR88 to Highway 395, according to DCSO Undersheriff Ron Elges.

The Cadillac continued driving through Genoa, Jacks Valley, and back to southbound Highway 395. DCSO requested several of the schools to “stay put” due to the direction of travel by the suspect.

DCSO continued the pursuit on Highway 395, where an opportunity to stop the vehicle with a PIT type maneuver was deployed bringing the Cadillac to a stop at Highway 395 and Plymouth Drive. The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was caught after a short foot pursuit and taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as Reggie Lewis, 45. Mr. Lewis is currently charged with a warrant for his arrest for homicide from the State of Arizona and Elges said there will be several local charges as well.
