RWC-SLT donate $1,000 to South Lake Tahoe Police K-9 fund

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Republican Women of California – South Lake Tahoe (RWC-SLT) donated $1,000 to the South Lake Tahoe Police K-9 Association to assist Officer Cory Wilson and his K-9 partner, Rocky. The police K-9 program has a unique impact on the community as the dogs assist the police department with drug enforcement, search and rescue, and locating fleeing subjects.

"Republican Women of CA-SLT is pleased to donate $1,000 to this worthwhile organization," said RWC-SLT President Karen Imhoff. "Officer Cory Wilson and K-9 Officer Rocky work long and hard for the citizens of South Lake Tahoe. It is our honor to show our support of their efforts and successes."

Funds from the association go to the K-9 veterinarian bills once they retire, extra training, equipment, and other needs that may come up. The biggest expense they incur though is the retired dogs' vet bills. While in service the police department covers those bills for K-9s, but once retired the association takes over. They live for an average of 12-14 years.

Rocky is a six-year-old mix of Belgian Malinois and Shepherd and has been with Cory for five years.

Imhoff also said, "Along with meeting Officer Wilson and Rocky, our monthly meetings will include the upcoming election of City Council candidates and propositions on our ballots. We invite registered Republican women and men to join us." The next luncheon meeting will be held on September 12 at 11:30 a.m. For more information, please email sltrepublicanwomenofca@gmail.com.
