Major delays possible between Kings Beach and Tahoe City as Caltrans works on SR28 project

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Caltrans is advising motorists of a broadband installation project continuing along State Route 28 (SR-28) along the north shore of Lake Tahoe next week.

The broadband project is part of a larger statewide effort by the California Department of Technology to bring high-speed broadband into rural communities. The contractor for this project is Teichert Construction.

Utility work is scheduled along the shoulders of both directions of SR-28 at the following locations and times:

Tuesday, September 3 from 8 p.m. until Thursday, September 5 at 8 p.m. between Sierra Terrace Road and Star Harbor

Wednesday, September 4 from 8 p.m. until Thursday, September 5 at 8 a.m. between Onyx Street and Agate Road

Thursday, September 5 from 8 p.m. until Friday, September 6 at noon between Rocky Ridge Road and Lake Forest Road East

Thursday, September 5 from 8 p.m. until Friday, September 6 at noon between Agate Road and Estates Drive

Southwest Gas and its contractor, Q&D Construction, have wrapped up construction work for this season on a gas-line replacement project on SR-28 between Tahoe City and Kings Beach. Work will resume next spring.

Motorists could encounter total delays of up to one hour between Tahoe City and Kings Beach on SR-28 due to the various construction activities. Please allow for extra time to reach your destination, especially during school drop-off and pick-up times. All work on road construction projects will be suspended on weekends and holidays. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment or material availability, or other unexpected events.
