A Foodie Review: Happy Hour Hot Shots visit The Woods in South Lake Tahoe

Four long-time locals started a new feature for South Tahoe Now this summer, and they'll be continuing as long as there is a Happy Hour somewhere! The "Happy Hour Hot Shots" will visit local eateries from time to time and report on their Happy Hour experiences in South Lake Tahoe.

This visit was to The Woods for Happy Hour. On an overall scale of 1-5 Bites, The Woods earned a 3.75.

We were sadly surprised that the top outside deck was not open for Happy Hour. We were told we arrived at shift change and they didn’t have staff to open the deck. While we were there (about 1.5 hours) there continued to only be one employee, the bartender who was working the bar and the restaurant section of the bar. Never did see the top deck opened up.

The bartender, Brandon was GREAT! He explained the Happy Hour offerings and was happy and pleasant, and described drinks and food with great detail.

The drinks were amazing and not watered down as we had experienced at Margaritaville. The Whiskey and Coke was potent!!! Also loved the Mexican Lager and Guinness at $5!!!

Happy Hour food items were unique and there were multiple choices, from blackened salmon tacos, flavor-filled chicken wings, and even a choice of salmon or cod fish & chips among other choices. Portions were large and well presented. The sauces that accompanied the chicken wings were not that creative.

The chef came out and chatted with us, which is always fun!

We did have to ask for silverware and napkins, but we understood how busy it was for Brandon, the one employee to handle everything. We are sorry there is not enough staff.

The other downside was the music was a bit loud at times which impacted conversation, but it is basically a bar.
