SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - What do Richard Peter, Thomas Rowland, and Fannie Barton have in common? Their final resting place is at the Al Tahoe Pioneer Cemetery in South Lake Tahoe.
The City of South Lake Tahoe, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Lake Tahoe Historial Society are inviting the community to the cemetery on September 20 for "What's Old Is New" between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
In 1868, Thomas Rowland dedicated the area where the cemetery is located, and there are over 100 pioneers buried there. Restoration efforts are underway and everyone is invited to stop by on Sept. 20 to see the newly restored Richard Peter grave marker with its iron fencing. There will also be newly discovered historic pictures.
Take a guided narrated tour of the historic grave markers and find out how you can be part of the restoration efforts. For more information on the Al Tahoe Historic Cemetery, visit http://www.tahoehistorytrail.org/at5.html.
