Sherry Ann Fletcher died peacefully at her Carson City home after a courageous battle with Acute Leukemia on August 31, 2022. Born May 8, 1940, in Eugene, Oregon, she grew up in Portland with her family relocating to Hayward, California in Sherry’s senior year of high school.
After graduating from San Lorenzo High she moved to San Francisco and in 1960, while working for the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, she met her future husband Bill Fletcher who was stationed in the Coast Guard. Bill and Sherry married in 1962 and following his Military discharge in 1963 they moved to South Lake Tahoe. Sherry and Bill began a 39-year career in the casino industry working in Table Games at both Harveys and Harrah’s. In 1966 they moved to Carson City to raise their 3 children Jay, Wendy, and Kelli. Sherry was an active member of the ST. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. She was a member of the Church Women’s Society, a former CCD Teacher, and a Eucharistic Minister. One of her greatest loves was volunteering at George Whittell’s Historic Thunderbird Lodge at Lake Tahoe.
Sherry was an avid reader, belonging to a local Book Club, and often would read several books simultaneously. She was a lifelong runner, race walker, and hiker, competing in marathons and climbing Mount Whitney in a day. Sherry was a generous, caring, thoughtful person who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. Sending cards to family and friends for all occasions from Birthdays to the death of a pet was very important to Sherry. Her sense of humor, infectious laugh, and beautiful smile will be missed by all who were blessed to know her. She is survived by her husband Bill of 60 years, her children Jay Fletcher of Reno, Wendy (Rich) Livermore of Carson City, Sister Rhonda (Daryl) Detherage of Orangevale, California, plus 4 grandchildren Ryan, Katie, Brooks Cora, and 3 great-grandchildren Wyatt, River, and Jameson. Sherry was pre-deceased by her daughter Kelli Fletcher Beck and her parents Clair and Ruth Eastman.
A Mass will be held in Sherry’s honor at St. Teresa Catholic Church 3000 N. Lompa Lane, Carson City, NV. 89706 at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2022.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in Sherry’s name to the Leukemia Research Foundation on their website at leukemiarf.org.
