Pipe replacement project impacts Black Bart Avenue traffic, alternate routes suggested

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Work to replace 9,510 linear feet of aging and undersized waterline is continuing in the Black Bart neighborhood, and traffic along Black Bart Avenue will be impacted over the next two to three weeks.

On Wednesday, work closed part of the road and forced drivers onto Meadow Crest Drive and Genoa Avenue as a detour, but the project contractor Vinciguerre Construction is working on those streets as well. Vehicles were seen speeding through the already narrowed streets all day. Workers will be on the side streets connecting the 150 homes to the new pipes.

For an easier drive, alternate routes should be used for the duration. If Black Bart Avenue opens to through traffic, signs in the area say 20-minute delays should be expected.

Besides the new pipe, 13 new fire hydrants are also being installed. The old 2-inch pipes are being replaced by 8-inch pipes to increase water flow through the neighborhoods in case of fire.
