SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be a free and convenient one-day paint drop-off event at South Tahoe Middle School on Saturday, September 14 from 8 a.m. to noon. Households and businesses can safely and easily drop off unused paint for recycling. Households may bring any amount of paint, stain, and/or varnish but some limits may apply to businesses.
The South Lake Tahoe PaintCare Event will accept unwanted house paint and primers (latex or oil-based); stains; deck and concrete sealers; and clear finishes (varnish and shellac). Paint must be in sealed, original containers with the original manufacturer label.
PaintCare CANNOT accept the following: Leaking, unlabeled, or empty containers; aerosol coatings; drums or containers larger than five gallons; hazardous waste or other chemicals, such as paint thinner, solvents, motor oil, spackle, glue, adhesive, roofing tar, pesticides, or cleaning chemicals.
Leftover paint in good condition that is dropped off at this event will be made immediately available to the public for free at this event. Color options and volumes are not guaranteed, and paint is provided as-is.
This event is open to all California households and businesses. Provided by PaintCare, a nonprofit stewardship organization responsible for paint recycling programs in California, nine other states, and the District of Columbia.
South Tahoe Middle School is located at 2940 Lake Tahoe Blvd.
Space is limited. Registration is required at https://paint-south-lake-tahoe.eventbrite.com. The event will be held rain or shine.
Business Limits: To use PaintCare drop-off sites and events for oil-based paint, a business must qualify as an exempt generator under federal and any similar state hazardous waste generator rules. Please visit www.paintcare.org/business-limits for more information on exempt generator rules. If your business does not qualify as an exempt generator, it will not be able to use drop-off sites and events for oil-based paint, but it can still use the program for latex products.
Year-Round Drop-off: South Lake Tahoe households can also take advantage of free paint recycling year-round at PaintCare drop-off locations in the area. Find the most convenient site for you at: https://www.paintcare.org/drop-off-sites/.
Why: PaintCare makes it easy and convenient for households throughout California to recycle leftover paint. Through this one-day event, PaintCare is providing the community with a convenient way to recycle and reuse paint.
