Windy week ahead for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra, a touch of fall mid-week

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Breezy winds and dry conditions will maintain elevated to critical fire weather conditions around Lake Tahoe and through the Sierra Front through midweek. Enhanced winds and increased chances of showers are expected Wednesday with cooler temperatures late this week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. There is even a chance for upper-elevation snow.

Anticipate tranquil weather to end the week with temperatures warming back towards seasonal averages by the weekend.

Forecast for South Lake Tahoe from NWS Reno:

Monday - Sunny, with a high near 82. South wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Monday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 48. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph.

Tuesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. South wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Tuesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 44. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Wednesday - Sunny, with a high near 72. Breezy, with a southwest wind of 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Wednesday Night - A 20 percent chance of showers before 11 pm. Snow level 9700 feet lowering to 8600 feet after midnight. Mostly clear, with a low around 34.

Thursday - Sunny, with a high near 70.

Thursday Night - Clear, with a low of around 36.

Friday - Sunny, with a high near 74.

Friday Night - Mostly clear, with a low of around 40.

Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 75.
