Special 9/11 memorial donated to South Lake Tahoe area fire departments

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A tribute to 9/11 was presented to local fire departments on Sunday, something that will be shared at all of the South Shore agencies.

On September 11, 2022, local Kenny Curtzwiler presented a shadow box to South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) Chief Jim Drennan. SLTFR Station 1 (on Ski Run Blvd.) will be the first firehouse to have the memorial. Curtzwiler had it made for the City of South Lake Tahoe and it had found a home on a wall in the City Council chambers until a recent redecorating project. He then thought it would be nice to present it to the fire department.

SLTFR will share the wall-mounted display at each of its firehouses, then it will go to Lake Valley, Tahoe Douglas, and Fallen Leaf Lake fire departments. All of those departments had staff at the American Legion's 9/11 Ceremony.

In the shadow box is a piece of the cornerstone from the World Trade Center, patches from New York police, port authority, and fire departments, a large 9/11 fallen hero patch, a poem, photo, and letter.
