Larry Reid was a member of the American Legion Post 795 in South Lake Tahoe. Born in Mason City, Iowa, Larry and his family moved to Oakland, Calif. in 1939 and then to Richmond, Calif. in 1942. Larry graduated from Richmond Union High in 1952. That same year he joined the US Army and was sent to Seoul, Korea where he served until 1956, later joining the Air Force In 1958.
Larry married his wife, Donna, in 1960. He left the Air Force with Donna in May 1962 and moved back to the Bay Area.
Larry and Donna had two sons. Glen was born in 1961, followed by Douglas in 1964. Larry is also survived by two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He worked for United Air Lines from 1963 until his retirement in 1992. The Reid family left their 20-year home in Pacifica, Calif. in June 1992 to move to South Lake Tahoe where Larry lived until his passing.
During his retirement in South Lake Tahoe, Larry worked part-time for the City of South Lake Tahoe Parks Department, at the city's golf course, and at Heavenly Ski Resort where he worked winters full-time and part-time for over 25 years. While at Heavenly Larry worked in the parking lot where he became manager. He took ski lessons and became a ski instructor during his last skiing years. In his 80s he worked helping, guiding, and advising visiting skiers and aiding them in their ski lessons.
A Celebration of Life for Larry will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the American Legion Post 795, located at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe at 2 p.m. with light refreshments following.
