Review of The Guys: Emotional, powerful, sentimental, touching

When my dear friend Ginger Nicolay-Davis texted me the promotional photo for the play "The Guys" currently at the Valhalla Boathouse Theatre, I must admit I had no idea the storyline.

I saw the local firefighters on the pier, flanking Ginger, and so I texted her back, "Wow, your timing is fortuitous," as I was just in Manhattan for one day, last Wednesday, September 11. I sat next to five firemen on the subway coming from the Memorial celebration at the Towers. Little did I know, this play "The Guys" is about that horrific day in our country's history.

Do not be afraid to embrace this past tragedy, can you believe it's been 23 years?! Ginger and the fabulous Brett Robinson are a two-person show that commands your attention from the very first minute. I am always blown away by the dialog, and the memorization, in this case 90 minutes with no intermission.

The time flew by, you may need a Kleenex, and you will be reminded how precious life is, each day is a gift.

Diana Evans, who is no stranger to the Tahoe stage, is behind the scenes in The Guys. This is her directorial debut.

So I always ask my friends and surrounding seat mates, to tell me in three words, their experience of the performance. After watching "The Guys," their words were - Emotional. Powerful. Sentimental. Touching. Teared up. This one sums it up best, "I'd go again next week!"

Performances are this coming Thursday through Sunday, do not miss it! Please visit valhallatahoe.com/events, sign up for their newsletter, and become a member! I'm beyond excited for WordWave!!
