SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Liberty Utilities has announced they may implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) for the areas in yellow and red in the map due to extreme fire conditions.

A PSPS is not imminent at this time; however, customers are encouraged to plan ahead for the possibility of an extended shutoff that could begin at 1:00 a.m. Sunday, September 19 and last more than 24 hours. Customers who require power to operate life-essential medical equipment are strongly encouraged to call 9-1-1 if they are unable to secure necessary alternative power.

NV Energy also announced to its customers Thursday that it has put a Public Safety Outage Management "watch" in place for several communities, including Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, and Jacks Valley, 19 communities in all, due to gusty winds and fire weather conditions expected to arrive Sunday.

During a PSOM event, NV Energy will shut off power in extreme and elevated fire risk areas to help prevent power lines, things that are blown into power lines, and other equipment from causing a wildfire.

Many of the areas on the South Shore are tied to the power grid of NV Energy.

There will be a PSPS briefing on Friday, September 17 at 5:00 p.m. Join by clicking HERE.
