TTD updates Bus Route 50 in South Lake Tahoe to run every 30 minutes

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) has made some updates to its routes that will make getting around Lake Tahoe more convenient for the South Lake Tahoe community and visitors. Starting this week, Route 50 has increased its frequency and will now run every 30 minutes, ensuring more flexibility and easier connections for everyone. The bus remains free to ride.

Key highlights of the new schedule:
- First departure from the Y at 6:20 a.m.

- Last departure from Stateline at 8:50 p.m.
- Three additional loops daily between the Y and Stateline

The new schedule that started is effective seven days a week (365 days a year).

"With the steps the District’s Board of Directors has taken to improve staff recruitment and fleet replacement this year, we’re excited to advance Route 50’s service to 30-minute headways," said Jim Marino, TTD's deputy district manager. "These strategic improvements not only enhance public transit but also support a future with reduced congestion, increased safety, and more efficient, convenient travel options for our community and visitors."

Route 50 will continue to make all scheduled stops, including Lake Tahoe Community College to accommodate charging for TTD’s electric buses. They said this is part of their commitment to supporting zero-emission transit and promoting a cleaner environment.

This service enhancement is designed to make commuting smoother and more accessible, offering more options for riders who rely on public transit to get around.

Marino said the Board's efforts to recruit and retain qualified professional operators are in support of this initiative.

In the meantime, the City of South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County have been moving forward with plans to create a JPA to operate transportation on the South Shore.

When asked if there are other plans in the works to improve service, Marino said there are "exciting opportunities ahead." The TTD Board will discuss the draft Short-Range Transit Plan (SRTP) on October 2, with approval likely, after which it will be open for public comment.

"We’re looking forward to receiving public comment around important impacts to transit in our community and are eager to collaborate with Lake Link to integrate services," added Marino.
