SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — In April 2023, after the second highest snow year on record, South Lake Tahoe experienced significant flooding. Unfortunately, part of the office space that Sierra Child and Family Services have called home for over 10 years was victim to flooding, causing extensive and devastating damage to its operations. Sierra Child and Family Services provides foster care, adoption, and outpatient mental health clinics with wraparound services, and is an essential part of South Lake Tahoe’s ecosystem supporting children and families.
Impact of flood damage
The flooding in April 2023 submerged the office, leaving it in a state of disrepair. The water damaged critical infrastructure, furniture, and vital resources that are essential for foster care services.
"It's a heartbreaking situation as we now have limited space to carry out our mission of reuniting families and providing a safe, nurturing environment for children in need," said the nonprofit in a statement.
Time for a new location
The flood damage left them with no choice but to seek a new location. They have entered into a lease located at 942 Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe. Sierra Child and Family Services will now have a new space that is perfect for its staff and clients, but the urgent need arises from the severe flood damage that has rendered our previous location unusable for the foreseeable future.

They need help from the community
The Marcella Foundation and Sierra Child & Family Services are joining hands to secure this new long-term space, making it a comfortable and welcoming new home for foster care.

"The Marcella Foundation has been incredibly supportive with a $30,000 contribution to help us secure our new space. However, we estimate that we still need an extra $30,000 to fully transform it into a welcoming haven. We're reaching out to our community for additional support to boost our ability to care for the most vulnerable children and families in our community," said Megan Neumann, regional manager of Sierra Child and Family Services.
All monies donated will be used to build out the new space and purchase essential infrastructure, furniture, and new toys and equipment for family reunification
The Marcella Foundation has set up a special fund for this project with all monies going directly back to Sierra Child and Family Services.
Join them in making a difference. Your donation, no matter the size, will contribute to creating a nurturing and supportive environment for children and families in need. Together, a space where these vital connections can flourish will be created.
