Cold front bringing rain to lake level, chance of snow at upper elevations

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A cold storm arriving in the Sierra Nevada Friday, bringing with it gusty winds and a quick (and, this time, shortlived) transition to chilly and showery conditions this weekend into early next week.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued south of Lake Tahoe, in Mono County.

The best potential for showers, even some high-elevation snow, will be from Saturday into Sunday.

Friday afternoon at Lake Tahoe will see mostly sunny skies with a high near 66. Southwest wind will be around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Then it changes -
Friday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 pm and 5 am, then a slight chance of showers after 5 am. Snow level 9700 feet lowering to 8900 feet after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 35. South wind 5 to 15 mph. The chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday - A slight chance of showers before 8 am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8 am and 11 am, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11 am. Widespread haze after 4 pm. Snow level 8300 feet. High near 52. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%.

Saturday Night - Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Snow level 8400 feet. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 32. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming northwest after midnight. The chance of precipitation is 70%.

Sunday - A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 11 am. Snow level 8000 feet. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. North wind around 5 mph.
Sunday NightPartly cloudy, with a low around 29. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

A warmer/drier trend settles in next week starting with a high of 60 on Monday, low of 33 and ending with a forecast high of 70 Friday-Sunday.
