The Caldor Fire did not gain any size on Thursday and remains at 221,775 acres burned. Firefighters did gain on containment which is now 91 percent.
1,467 personnel remain working the fire.
Overall a relatively quiet day across the fire. On the west side in Divisions G through W, there were a number of small heat signatures well inside the perimeter, particularly around the Division A/W break. Fire lines along this perimeter are holding well with no issues.
Along the 50 corridor, there were a handful of heat pockets resulting from fallen tree logs. In the Echo Lakes area, two hotshot crews worked with a helitack unit to extinguish a few hotspots, described by the Incident Management Team as a "search and destroy" assignment.
Divisions O and P were quiet again today, with only some isolated hotspots well interior which produced a fair amount of smoke but presented no threat of spread.
In Division Q, Tallac Hotshots worked on a large interior pocket of unburned fuel near Sierra Point which was also producing a significant amount of smoke. As elsewhere, this area posed no risk to the established fire line.
The fire on the north side of Smith Lake, which started last week, continues to be monitored and there is very little activity other than a small section that is still smoldering but has no fuel ahead of it to support spread and is expected to burn itself out.
The Caldor Fire started at approximately 6:45 PM on August 14, 2021.
The U.S. Forest Service said Thursday the daily 5:00 p.m. community meetings will continue daily for the time being but the morning meetings will not be carried on Facebook and there will be just one updated fire activity report released daily.
Evacuation Orders have been reduced to Warnings for the Desolation Wilderness north of Pyramid Peak. Evacuation Warnings have been released for residences accessed from US-50 corridor west of Sierra-At-Tahoe Road, the Crystal Basin west of Desolation Wilderness, and the Heavenly Ski Resort Property.
