Body recovered at Donner Lake after three-day search

TRUCKEE, Calif. - On Wednesday, September 25 at 3:30 p.m., the Truckee Police Department received multiple calls reporting a canoe with two adult males inside had flipped over in the middle of Donner Lake. A nearby windsurfer got to one of the men and saved him, but could not get the second man. Neither of the occupants were wearing life jackets.

A search immediately began with the response of multiple agencies consisting of local boat and dive teams along with assistance of air resources from Calstar and the California Highway Patrol. Search operations in the area where the missing person was last seen continued into the night before efforts were temporarily ceased due to darkness.

After an extensive three-day multi-agency search effort at Donner Lake, the victim was located and his body was recovered.

"Our greatest sympathies remain with the family and friends of the victim during this time," said the Truckee Police on social media.

The name of the deceased has not been released.
