SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A pursuit of a suspected stolen Mazda CX9 Friday led to one South Lake Tahoe man being arrested. At the same time a crash near the pursuit led to two people being transported to Barton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

This is breaking news and not all information from law enforcement is available at this time.

Just after 5:00 p.m. on October 1, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) observed what they thought to be a stolen vehicle on Montreal Avenue in the Stateline area. A pursuit ensued with officers chasing the suspect vehicle from California into Nevada, back into South Lake Tahoe and through several different neighborhoods both in the city limits and county portion of the south shore. The driver of the stolen car headed to Chinquapin Drive where he broke through a gate at the dead end of the street at the STPUD ponds, then through a second gate at the end of the dirt road that leads to Black Bart Avenue. The vehicle led officers through Tahoe Sierra neighborhood and back onto US 50 where it was stopped via a PIT maneuver in front of South Lake Tahoe Fire Department.

The driver was arrested and taken to the El Dorado County Jail to be booked. The stolen car was reported to have been towed to the victim's home.

As the pursuit was going on, a SLTPD vehicle was involved in a crash with another vehicle on US 50 just east of the intersection with Lyons Avenue. Both the officer and driver of the vehicle were transported to the hospital.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the crash of the two vehicles and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department is investigating the pursuit and arrest.
