Sacred Space – Releasing and Receiving community event

Over the past year, with all that’s happened in the world and in our community, and now with the Caldor Fire, the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church hopes community members will stop by the church parking lot to share stories, express grief as well as gratitude, and explore steps to process all that this means in your own life and in our collective life as a community.

Our entire community, to varying degrees, has experienced trauma as a result of the Caldor Fire – that trauma can show up in the physical, mental, emotional or spiritual (or all of the above) aspects of our lives. Research
has shown that part of healing is sharing our stories in a safe space.

In Spain, along the Camino de Santiago, there is a sacred setting where stones are left at the base of a cross.

This practice is part of an ancient tradition that travelers and pilgrims have been practicing for centuries. Along with each stone is left a personal thought. It is often a prayer, a sorrow, a thank you, or a blessing. Some stones have words or drawings on them and others are plain. It just depends on what each individual feels guided to leave. According to custom, as stones are set at the foot of the monument symbolically one’s burdens are left behind.

The church invite you to visit the Sacred Space they're creating in the church parking lot to write your personal thoughts on a stone to leave as part of releasing story and trauma, and then to choose a stone to take with
you to help you process what happened in our community and in your own life.
While healing and processing takes time, we hope that you’ll join us for one moment of your life journey.

There will also be people nearby if you’d like prayer for you or your family and friends.
