Van Sickle Bi-State Park to close this week for fall Gondola maintenance

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Van Sickle Bi-State Park in South Lake Tahoe will be closed October 5 -7 to allow for maintenance work by Heavenly Mountain Resort. As 2022 summer operations come to a close, Heavenly is shifting its focus toward ski and ride season. That includes preparing the Gondola for additional work as guests from around the world plan to visit this upcoming winter to take in the beauty of Lake Tahoe and recreate in the High Sierra.

This preparation work requires access to Gondola towers and cable that are located within the Van Sickle Bi-State Park. As a result, the park will be closed to vehicle and guest access beginning October 5, with an anticipated end date of October 7.

Once this work is complete, the California Tahoe Conservancy and Nevada State Parks will reopen the gates to Van Sickle Bi-State Park. The reopening includes access to roads, parking lots, and restrooms.

The 725-acre Van Sickle Bi-State Park is located a short walk from the south shore’s greatest concentration of visitor activities and accommodations in the Stateline area. Jointly managed by the Conservancy and Nevada State Parks, Van Sickle is one the most accessible parks in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The park’s trails afford panoramic views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding peaks. Park hours are sunrise to sunset. Entrance is free.
