Guild Mortgage's South Lake Tahoe office contributes $10,000 to Caldor relief fund

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Community Disaster Resource Center (CDRC) got a big burst of funds Thursday with a $10,000 donation from Guild Mortgage of South Lake Tahoe.

CDRC was formed during the Angora Fire to help those who had lost their homes, and now they've come back together again to help those whose wages were impacted due to evacuation from the Caldor Fire.

Many residents were unprepared financially to pay for both living expenses in South lake Tahoe as well as in their temporary home after evacuation. A large percentage of residents work several jobs to stay local because they call this community family and the glorious landscape home. Many locals fall into the low-income, un-insured and under-insured. They are suffering more now than ever, needing help in times of crisis.

CDRC took applications from those locals needing help and will soon meet as a board to determine how to distribute funds. They are currently vetting those who applied to help those that need it most. Board members are Dick Schwarte, Pamm Bettencourt (President), Jerry Bindel (Treasurer), Buzz Bera, Debbie Brown, and Carrie Scarvie.

The local team at Guild Mortgage met as a group and knew they wanted to help the community as people returned after mandatory evacuations. They found CDRC as the best fit for their donation because the group was the right fit with its specific mission, according to Tara Offenbacher of the local Guild Mortgage branch.

Offenbacher was joined by co-workers Linda Hansen and Jordyn Dion to present the $10,000 check to CDRC.
