Pfizer vaccines available for South Lake Tahoe students at upcoming clinic

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) has announced that Barton Health will be hosting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at South Tahoe High School on Wednesday, October 13 from noon to 3:00 p.m.

They will be administering the Pfizer vaccine which recently was approved for anyone age 12 and older. Students, staff and family members are invited to participate in the clinic.

Parents who would like their students to receive the Pfizer vaccine will need to fill out and sign a consent form (found here). The form must be completed and presented to the clinic coordinator prior to receiving the vaccine. This will be a walk-in clinic and there is no need to make an appointment. Vaccines will be administered through lunch, 4th period, and after school.

South Tahoe Middle School students should arrive at STHS before 1:30 p.m. or after 2:30 p.m. to avoid the end of school day traffic at the high school.

There is also a pre-vaccination checklist (HERE). Please ensure your child knows the answers to these questions, and if there is anything on the list that is positive, please come with your child or be available by phone on the day of the event to discuss risks and benefits.

Since the start of the school year, LTUSD schools have been impacted by multiple positive cases, close-contact quarantines, and absences due to illness. They are seeing new positive cases at the majority of school sites daily. This is affecting school operations, athletic events, and most importantly, learning. Per the California Department of Public Health, vaccinated students and staff who are determined to be close contacts, and who are asymptomatic, are not required to quarantine, thus are at lower risk for missing instruction and activities.

Drs. Paul Rork, Jenifer Norris, Rhonda Sneeringer, Cheryl Orr, David Finnigan, and Kelly Vial will be on site to administer the vaccines and answer any questions students or parents may have. Bilingual support will be provided for Spanish speaking families.

For more information about the vaccine, the District suggest people read How Does the COVID-19 Vaccine Prevent Illness? (Eng/Span) Written by Dr. Sneeringer.
Barton Health and LTUSD encourage unvaccinated students ages 12 and over, and any family members, who would like to receive the vaccine to attend the clinic next Wednesday, October 13, at South Tahoe High School from 12:00 - 3:00 PM.
