SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After some widespread rain around Lake Tahoe overnight, many looked to the mountains to see if any snow fell. All peaks had snow from Trimmer and Freel Peaks to the south, Mt. Tallac to the west and Mt. Rose to the north. Though not a lot of snow, its a glimmer of hope for a snowy winter. Snow levels were around 6500 to 8000 feet with snow accumulations around 1 - 3 inches for the elevations above 8000 feet this morning.
While there wasn't any snowfall at lake level Friday, the next system might leave a dusting around Tahoe. Until then, plan on dry and pleasant conditions this weekend. Prime weather for winterizing homes and irrigation
systems and wrapping up any other pre-winter tasks you've put off.
A cold system is slated for Monday with breezy winds and chances for snow showers across the Sierra and western Nevada. A hard freeze remains likely for the much of the region Monday and Tuesday nights, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.
Exactly what the impacts of that storm could be are contingent on the winds and time of day the system arrives. More will become evident as the weekend wraps up.
Here is the NWS Reno forecast through Tuesday:
Saturday - Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 55. Light and variable wind becoming north 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.
Saturday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 26. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Sunday Night - A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 5am. Snow level 8900 feet lowering to 7200 feet after midnight . Increasing clouds, with a low around 28. West wind around 5 mph.
Indigenous Peoples Day - A chance of rain and snow showers before 8am, then a chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 46. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
