Warm and dry start to the week in South Lake Tahoe; Rain and snow possible before end

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Warm and dry start to the week in South Lake Tahoe and the rest of the region, but changes are expected beginning Wednesday. The forecast includes rain and some snow just above lake level. The lows on Thursday will drop 10 degrees below freezing.

The South Lake Tahoe forecast from the National Weather Service in Reno:

Indigenous People's Day - Sunny, with a high near 72. Calm wind.

Monday Night - Clear, with a low of around 38. Calm wind.

Tuesday - Sunny, with a high near 74. Calm wind, becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night - Increasing clouds, with a low of around 37. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday - A 50 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 63. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday Night - A chance of rain showers before 5 am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Snow level 10100 feet lowering to 8600 feet after midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low of around 32. The chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Thursday - A slight chance of rain and snow showers before 8 am, then a chance of rain showers. Snow level 8200 feet. Mostly sunny, with a high near 59.

Thursday Night - A chance of showers before 11 pm. Snow level 8400 feet lowering to 6600 feet after midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low of around 22.

Friday - Sunny, with a high near 54.
